Official Sutter County Inmate Search
The official current-custody search for Sutter County Jail is the sheriff's Zuercher incarcerated-person search. The sheriff's custody-status page points users to two online routes: the Zuercher roster for detailed jail information and VINELink for custody status and change notifications. The roster is free and no login was observed during the research inspection. It is meant for people currently in custody at the Sutter County Jail facility, not for all past arrests in Sutter County and not for people already admitted to state prison.
Search results should be read as custody records, not final court outcomes. A Sutter County inmate row can show the agency holding the person, arrest date, release date if listed, and hold reasons that may include charges, warrants, commitments, parole holds, probation issues, or bond wording. The sheriff's roster notice also warns that visiting may be restricted, tentative release dates should be confirmed with the jail, and VINE can be used for custody-change notices. For formal court filings after an arrest, use the Sutter Superior Court portal rather than treating the roster as the final charge record.
The public Zuercher screen captured for Sutter County inmate records is available through the official roster source.
The screenshot shows why the county roster is the first stop for current jail custody, while phone, VINELink, records requests, CDCR, BOP, and ICE cover different fallback needs.
Use the Sutter County Jail Roster
The Sutter County jail roster works best when the search starts broad. Entering too many filters can hide a match if a public field is blank, converted to a general value, or not exposed as an active filter. The roster uses a current "In Custody On" date, and Sutter's configuration allows that date to be changed. Older-date results should still be treated as roster snapshots, not as a complete archive of every Sutter County booking.
- Open the Sutter County Zuercher roster and leave the current "In Custody On" date in place for a same-day custody search.
- Type the person's name in the Name box. Result names were observed in LAST, FIRST MIDDLE order, so try a last name first if the full name fails.
- Use Race or Sex only if needed. Public records can contain blank, unknown, or not specified values, so over-filtering may miss the person.
- Press Search, then read the main table row and the hold-reasons row beneath it. The hold-reasons row usually carries the charge, warrant, bond, or commitment detail.
- Use Reset before trying a new search. If the result shows a tentative release date, call Sutter County Jail before making plans around it.
- If the person is not listed, check VINELink, call the jail, or move to the state, federal, ICE, or public-records channel that matches the custody type.
Sutter County Roster Search Fields
The Zuercher portal includes more field types in its configuration than Sutter County exposes as active public filters. Name, Race, Sex, and In Custody On are the useful public fields for a routine search. Cell Block, Arrest Date, Held For Agency, and Release Date exist in the template or data configuration, but the research found they were not active public filters for Sutter's page.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | No | Searches name text. The portal did not post a minimum character count. |
| Race | Dropdown | No | Options include White, Hispanic, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian Indian, Filipino, Other, Unknown, and more configured values. |
| Sex | Dropdown | No | Active options include Female, Male, Non-Binary, transgender-presenting options, and Unknown. |
| Cell Block | Dropdown | Not active | Configured housing codes include A-POD, B-POD, C-POD, D-DORM, MAX units, MEDICAL, MEDIUM EAST, MEDIUM WEST, and safety or observation cells. |
| Arrest Date | Date | Not active | The template supports it, but Sutter did not expose it as an active public filter. |
| Held For Agency | Dropdown | Not active | The configuration includes local police, sheriff, court, probation, parole, state, federal, jail, and outside-agency labels. |
| In Custody On | Date | No | Active field with no date-limit setting observed. Defaults to the current date. |
| Release Date | Date | Not active | Release date is an available result column, but it was not an active search filter. |
Sutter County Inmate Record Fields
A Sutter County inmate record is a table row rather than a full profile page. The public sample data inspected on May 31, 2026 returned current roster entries with basic identity fields and a longer hold-reasons field. The hold-reasons text is often the most useful part because it can show fresh charges, warrants, commitments, CDCR or parole holds, bond types, bond amounts, issuing jurisdictions, judge-set flags, and count numbers.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| name | Person's name in LAST, FIRST MIDDLE order. |
| race | Race or ethnicity label selected from Zuercher configured values. |
| sex | Sex or gender label selected from configured values. |
| dob | Shown to the public as age, not full date of birth. |
| arrest_date | Earliest or current arrest date shown for the custody row. |
| held_for_agency | Agency responsible for the hold or case, such as the sheriff, Yuba City Police, CHP, probation, or CDCR-related parole authority. |
| mugshot | Present as a data field but blank in inspected records because Sutter says booking photos are not displayed. |
| hold_reasons | Charge, warrant, commitment, hold type, code section, arrest date, bond type, bond amount, issuing jurisdiction, and judge-set wording where listed. |
| release_date | Blank for many current-custody rows or a timestamp when release is listed. |
| is_juvenile | Boolean flag. Sample adult records showed false. |
Sutter County Inmate Access Channels
No single lookup covers all Sutter County inmate records. The Zuercher roster is the main current county-jail search. VINELink is useful when the need is notice of release, transfer, or custody-status change. The jail phone line is the practical fallback when a release date, housing issue, visit eligibility, or hold status needs confirmation. For records not shown online, the sheriff's Records Unit and the county NextRequest public-records portal are the records-request path.
State, federal, and immigration custody require separate systems. Use CDCR CIRIS for California state-prison custody after a Sutter County sentence results in prison admission. Use the BOP Inmate Locator for federal Bureau of Prisons custody and the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District of California for federal pretrial custody questions. Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System for immigration detention. No official current Sutter County sheriff mobile app with inmate or warrant lookup was located, so do not rely on an app-only roster.
Note: A person can have local bail listed and still remain held because of a warrant, parole hold, probation hold, federal detainer, or immigration issue.
Request Sutter County Booking Records
When a Sutter County inmate record is missing from the public roster, no longer current, or too limited for a document need, the next county channel is the sheriff's Records Unit. The Records Unit handles agency reports and records, record-release requests, public counter and phone information, and related support services. Research found public hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a noon to 1:00 p.m. closure. Report copies are listed at $0.25 per page, photo identification is required, and the unit states that it responds to requests within ten days.
The county's online request route is Sutter County NextRequest. That portal lets requesters search previous requests and responsive documents before filing a new request. For a booking-record request, narrow the wording to the person's full name, arrest date, booking date if known, involved agency, and the specific releasable record sought. California public-records law supports access to specified arrest information, but confidential, juvenile, investigatory, safety-sensitive, or otherwise exempt material can still be withheld or redacted.

Sutter County Jail Visiting Schedule
Visitation depends on housing or population group, so the roster alone may not be enough if the public cell-block field is blank. Sutter County Jail visits are no-contact visits. Visitors must come before visiting hours and sign up because appointments are not allowed. Valid identification is required, expired identification is not accepted, and late visitors lose visiting time. The jail rules limit most visitors to one 30-minute visit per inmate per day, except minimum-security rules, and each incarcerated person must receive no fewer than two visits totaling at least one hour per week.

Sutter County Jail vs Other Custody
Sutter County has one mapped county jail and no state prison, BOP prison, ICE detention center, or dedicated U.S. Marshals detention facility located in the county. That does not mean every person tied to a Sutter arrest remains searchable through the county roster. A local arrestee may be released, sentenced to county time, sent to CDCR after a state-prison sentence, held on a federal matter, or moved into immigration detention. The lookup source must match the legal custody.
| Custody Type | Who It Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| County jail | Pretrial detainees, local sentenced inmates, warrants, court commitments, probation or parole holds, and other people held at Sutter County Jail. | Sutter Zuercher roster or jail phone. |
| VINELink notices | Custody-status and notification needs for people in Sutter County jail custody. | VINELink, select California and Sutter County, then search by name. |
| State prison | People admitted to CDCR after a California state-prison sentence. | CDCR CIRIS. |
| Federal prison | People in federal Bureau of Prisons custody. | BOP Inmate Locator. |
| Federal pretrial | People in U.S. Marshals custody, sometimes housed outside the county. | USMS Eastern District of California. |
| Immigration detention | People held by ICE or moved into immigration custody. | ICE detainee locator. |
Common Sutter County Roster Terms
Roster wording can be short and easy to misread. A charge line may not mean conviction, and a bond amount on one hold may not mean the person can be released if another hold blocks release. These short definitions explain the terms most likely to affect a Sutter County inmate search.
- Booking
- Jail intake after arrest or court commitment, including identity, property, screening, and record creation.
- Hold reason
- The roster field that can list charges, warrants, commitments, parole holds, bond wording, and issuing agency details.
- Detainer or hold
- A legal reason from another agency or authority that can prevent release even when local bail appears.
- Classification
- The jail process used to assign housing and security level. Public housing may be blank in Sutter roster rows.
- CDCR
- California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the state prison agency used after a state-prison sentence.
Booking photos deserve special care. The Sutter Zuercher page says booking photos are not displayed pursuant to AB 994, and inspected public records showed blank mugshot fields. For booking-photo questions, use the Records Unit or NextRequest process rather than expecting a photo in the roster. More detail on that issue is available on the Sutter County jail mugshots page.
Sutter County Jail Facility
The only local detention facility link for Sutter County inmate records is Sutter County Jail. The jail is operated by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office through the Jail Division and Corrections Section. It houses pretrial detainees, sentenced county-jail inmates, court commitments, warrants, probation and parole holds, and people held for local or other agencies. The sheriff's official building history identifies the original 1977 jail, later minimum and felony dorm additions, and a maximum-security single-cell unit completed in 1999.
For current custody, start with Zuercher. For custody-change notice, use VINELink. For a tentative release date, a housing-sensitive visit issue, or a hold that does not make sense from the roster text, call the jail. For records that are not on the current roster, use the Records Unit or NextRequest. Once a person is sentenced to state prison and admitted to CDCR, the county roster is no longer the right lookup path.
Note: Confirm custody with Sutter County Jail before sending money, appearing for a visit, or relying on a listed release date.
